Katrins visit at the Heart & Stroke Foundation in South Africa

Katrin spent two weeks at the Heart & Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA) in Cape Town, supported by the Mobility Grant for Research Stays in Africa for Early-Career Researchers provided by WKS Bavaria-Africa. Her stay focused on a new joint research project on healthy and sustainable food choices among students in Germany and South Africa. Together with Professor Naidoo, CEO of the HSFSA, she laid the initial groundwork for this collaboration. In addition, Katrin gained insights into the foundation’s diverse public health activities, ranging from community projects and school programmes to their mobile clinic. She was particularly impressed by how passionately the team translates scientific knowledge into practical health promotion. Another highlight was her exchange with researchers at the University of the Western Cape and her participation in the Quality in Healthcare Summit, where she also supported the HSFSA at their information stand. For Katrin, her time in Cape Town was a valuable professional and personal experience. She returned to our campus with new contacts, perspectives, and fresh ideas.
