Challenge Accepted - Peat-Free Potting Soils as Trendsetters
At the "Thüringer Blütensommer" Ornamental Plant Cultivation Day in Erfurt, our research assistant Johannes B. Grote, presented findings from the model and demonstration project HOT. In his lecture, Johannes outlined the challenges and opportunities arising from the use of peat-reduced and peat-free potting soils in hobby gardening. The presentation provided exciting insights into the consumer behavior of hobby gardeners and discussed ways in which peat-free potting soils can be successfully incorporated into assortments and positioned in the market.
The aim of the HOT project is to accelerate the replacement of peat products in amateur gardening with peat-reduced and peat-free substrates based on renewable resources.
