Less peat, the usual potting soil quality: Johannes presents at ekaflor in Erfurt

How can the change in potting-soils be achieved with less peat without compromising the quality of the plants or the customer experience? Could using peat-free soils strengthen customer loyalty?  At the 'ekaflor Grüne Tage' conference in Erfurt, our research assistant, Johannes B. Grote, presented the latest research findings and practical solutions to ensure the successful sale of peat-reduced and peat-free potting soils in the horticultural retail sector.

Using practical examples from the HOT model and demonstration project, he showed how customers buy and use potting soils, and the challenges and opportunities that peat-reduction presents to consumers and retailers. The focus was on providing customers with analogue and digital information and communication materials from the HOT project.

The HOT project aimed to accelerate the replacement of peat products in hobby gardening with peat-reduced and peat-free substrates based on renewable raw materials, and to support consumers in using these 'new' potting soils.
